As Spring starts to show it’s face in the UK we start to think about dusting off the clubs and planning our golf adventures for the year.

Whilst we always design courses which are fun for the regular golfer to play, on occasion, they also have to be adaptable to test the best golfers in the world during tournament time. This year our courses are hosting some of the very best professional golfers on both the mens and ladies tours. Below is a summary of professional tournaments being played on TPL courses/ renovation projects in 2016.

April 20-23, European Challenge Tour – Red Sea Egyptian Challenge, Presented by Hassan Allam Properties (Sokhna Golf Club)

The European Challenge Tour returns to Egypt for the first time since 2010 when Rory McIlroy made a much promoted appearance.  Alain de Soultrait, Challenge Tour Director, said: “It is an exciting opportunity for our Members to return to Egypt and visit a new golf course in Sokhna Golf Club, which I know will provide a top-class test.

The European Tour website continues to say - The return of the Challenge Tour will reinforce Egypt’s reputation as a growing golf destination and should help to support and encourage the growth of the sport in the country, and local talent will benefit enormously from rubbing shoulders with some of Europe’s brightest golfing prospects.

Sokhna Golf Club is one of the premier golf courses in the country, having hosted a tournament on the Pro Golf Tour and Alps Tour – the Challenge Tour’s satellite tours – for the last three years.

The golf course is a joint venture between the Little Venice Golf Resort – part of the Hassan Allam Properties portfolio – and EINBAY, owned by Galalah Touristic Investments Company.

The par 72 Championship Golf Course was designed by renowned course architects John Sanford and Tim Lobb (Thomson Perrett & Lobb).

Nine holes are to be played on John Sanford course and nine holes on TPL course at the adjacent EINBAY resort.

We applaud our clients for hosting this event and again putting Egyptian golf on the world scene.

May 25th, 71st U.S Women Open Championship, Sectional Qualifier – Europe, (The Buckinghamshire Golf Club)

We are currently finalising phase one of the re construction of the course and the sectional qualifier event for the U.S Women Open on May 25th will be one of the first major tournaments on the re vamped course at The Buckinghamshire.

With approximately nine holes refreshed with new bunkers and bunker positions it will be wise for the participants of this tournament to do their homework on the new playing strategies implemented by Thomson Perrett & Lobb.

Some great new risk/ reward options will be present on the par five holes, holes 11th and 18th as well as a new landing area to the left of the lake on hole 8. We really hope to see golfers go for this short par four green off the drive. Maybe a few eagles and double bogies.

The new landing area to 8th hole being finalised.

May 25-27, EuroPro Tour event, (Burhill Golf Club, New Course)

We have been working with the BGL Golf group for a number of years on both the Old and New courses at the esteemed Burhill Golf Club in Surrey. On the New course our remit was to reduce the size of the bunkers yet still provide a stern strategic challenge for members and tournament play.

The EuroPro event has been hosted at Burhill Golf Club now for a number of years with the course evolving constantly over that time.

We are proud of our works to the course and wish everybody a great tournament.

November 3-6, European Tour, Turkish Airlines Open, Race to Dubai Final Series (Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort)

Very excited to see some of the world’s best golfers play on our design in Turkey at the end of the year. We started design on this project in 2006 and it was opened in 2008. Following an extensive heather propagation exercise of native heather species we created the first heathland inspired course golf course in Turkey which offered a very different and unique golfing experience for the well-travelled Turkish golfing holidaymaker.

In recent years the Turkish Airlines Open has become one of the premier events on the European Tour schedule with a prize fund of Euro 7, 000, 000. Ahmet Agaoglu, President of the Turkish Golf Federation, said: “Turkish Airlines has been magnificent in their support of golf in Turkey. The difference it has made, especially in raising the profile of the Turkish Airlines Open, has been incredible to see. It is therefore fantastic that together we have agreed to extend the tournament for a further three years – we cannot wait to grow the game in Turkey even further.”

TPL are currently assisting owner Mr Fikret Öztürk and the European Tour with some design improvements to the course to enhance the golfing challenge for the tournament.

Congratulation to Mr Fikret Öztürk and all the team at Carya Golf Club for this amazing event being held at the club.

Tim Lobb – hope to make it along for all these tournaments throughout the year and watch how our courses stand up to these elite golfers.

Good golfing for the year ahead.
