Tally of international travels for TPL in 2015
Nigeria (5x), Egypt (4x), Turkey (4x), USA (2x), UAE, Ivory Coast, Ireland, Jersey
As 2015 draws to an end it is always fun to reflect on another year gone by. We are fortunate enough to be working on both new build and renovation projects. The new build projects are taking us into Africa mainly with some ongoing projects still in Middle East and Europe. For the renovation projects they are in the UK and mainly concentrated around the Surrey/ Berkshire regions – great golfing territories.
Looking through the diary we try to pick our highlights for each month. Hope you enjoy the read.
January – Started the year with a site visit to our new build course in Cairo called NEWGIZA. Earthworks were underway and taking shape. See above.
February – Once again TPL exhibited at the Golf Industry Show which was held in San Antonio, Texas. Despite the cold weather the show was a big success and we got to meet with old and new friends in the golf industry. Note – TPL will be exhibiting in 2016 in San Diego as well. Come say hi.
March – Our two new build projects in Nigeria in Calabar and Port Harcourt going full steam ahead and we visited both sites throughout the year. This visit was the third for the year.
April – Earthworks had re commenced on our new build yet stalled Dubai Golf City project and we went out for a look and meetings regarding the project. We have been visiting Dubai for over 10 years and it never seems to stop in terms of development.
May – We were invited to play in the Pro Am for the Ladies Turkish Open at Carya Golf Club that we designed in Belek. This full Ladies European Tour event was well received by the players and won by English woman Mel Reid.
June – Our annual TPL Spring Cup for our clients and industry friends was held in Dublin this year. We managed to play the O’ Meara Course at Carton House and the famed Portmarnock Golf Club. Both courses were great and the Guinness even better.
July – Peter Thomson, Ross Perrett and Tim Lobb were together at St Andrews for The Open and TPL Golf Day the following week at St George’s Hill (a TPL client). Always a special time when the partners get together but at the Home of Golf it is even more special.
August – Time for a well earnt holiday. While in Portugal, Tim managed to get a game at Monte Rei with friend and constructor of the course Benjamim Silva and David Langheim of Wimbledon Park Golf Club.

September – Sunningdale Golf Club was the first stop on the Heath to Links study tour. Photo by Mark Alexander.
September – Tim took part in the golf architects study tour – to heath and links. The tour organised by the European Institute of Golf Course Architects who played hosts to the US and Australian golf architecture societies for a week long study tour playing Sunningdale GC, The Berkshire GC, Royal St Georges GC and Royal Cinque Port GC. Around 80 golf course architects from around the world attended this magnificent event.
October – Our winter renovation works start at Bury St Edmunds and Burhill Golf Clubs.
November – Grassing had commenced at NEWGIZA in Cairo and we went out to inspect progress. This project always is a source of excitement and anticipation. On that trip we also finalised our agreement to design a new 18 hole golf course at Soma Bay in Hurghada – great news.
December – No overseas travelling in December as we have started construction of our major renovation project at The Buckinghamshire Golf Club. The construction will run over two winters and is being completed by Profusion Environmental. Additionally The Berkshire Golf Club appointed us at their consulting architect for their famed Red and Blue courses.
We thank our clients for their wonderful support in 2015. Looking forward to 2016 – no doubt there will be continued travels to Africa and beyond. Our course Carya Golf Club is hosting the Turkish Open on the main European Tour this year and we will be on hand to assist the owners with any course refinements and attending the event.
Our search for passionate and serious clients continues and we wish you all a Merry Christmas and see you in 2016.
Please note that our office will be closed from December 22nd to January 4th.
