The Thomson Perrett & Lobb designed Carya Golf Club in Belek, Turkey is this week hosting the Ladies European Tour – Turkish Airlines Ladies Open.

Tim Lobb of TPL went to Turkey to participate in the Pro Am as well as view the night golf exhibition put on by some of the rising stars of the LET. Carya Golf Club is a fully lit 18 hole golf course. The modern technology of the lights means that they are sensor controlled – therefore if no golfers are on the holes then they wont come on. Additionally the newer bulbs have meant that they come on and off faster as well as using less energy. Maybe the purist of the game will not like night golf but hey think about when cricket went under lights, there was an uproar. Now it is the most popular form of cricket. Times change and sports need to adapt to modern living.

Gary Finnerty and the whole greenkeeping team at Carya Golf Club had the course presented immaculately for the tournament. During the Pro Am there were many memories but on the 7th which is picture our whole team hit to with 5m of the pin and three of us got the birdie putt. It is a lovely hole as you can see below.

In addition to this exhibition game the LET have programmed the event to start on a Sunday and finish on Wednesday. A brilliant idea as the TV coverage should be well taken up during this quiet time of the TV sporting week.

Many congratulations to our clients at Carya Golf Club for making such a big effort to showcase the golf course and Turkey to the golfing world. Additionally the Ladies European Tour and promoters have done a wonderful job of giving tournament golf a good injection of excitement and public awareness through their out of the box thinking.

Bravo.
